Beaver and elk frequent this intact Sitka spruce and crabapple swamp and fen, part of the greater Gearhart forested wetland system. This easement protects a rare, undisturbed open freshwater wetland. The native plant communities found here are considered rare and critically endangered in Oregon.
This relic intact Sitka spruce swamp and fen is part of the greater Gearhart area forested wetland system. The open freshwater wetland is a rare gem due to its undisturbed state. Carex, spirea, willow and native crabapple dominate the riparian areas around the wetland. The plant community types present are considered rare and critical in Oregon. Avian and amphibian life is abundant and beaver and elk activity are seen regularly.
