Not technically a beaver sighting, but pretty darn Not technically a beaver sighting, but pretty darn close! 🦫

We came across this sizable western redcedar, which a beaver had very recently cut down, at our habitat reserve on the Necanicum River while removing invasive plants.

We're always thrilled to see our reserves being actively used by wildlife!

“In every successful effort to make change, ther “In every successful effort to make change, there is some lucky convergence of circumstances. But in my experience, there is always one essential ingredient: scrappy people who are willing to work backward from goals that seem impossibly ambitious at the start.

… We underestimate the power of contribution—of acting within our own sphere of influence to tackle the piece of the problem that is right in front of us.”

These words from Abigail Dillen’s essay “Litigating in a Time of Crisis” made us think of you all.

Thank you for being those scrappy people, willing to work and contribute to make meaningful change on the northern Oregon Coast through conservation.

We can make a positive difference here, within our sphere of influence, because of you all. 💚

Roundleaf sundew is a fascinating native carnivoro Roundleaf sundew is a fascinating native carnivorous plant that grows at our Gearhart Fen Habitat Reserve and other bogs, seeps, and wetlands.

The upper leaves of Roundleaf sundew (Drosera rotundifolia) have hairs with small glands that secrete a sticky fluid to trap insects, which are then digested by enzymes. Following digestion, the leaf unfurls to reset the trap.
