Type of Project: Habitat Reserve
The North Fork Necanicum River property encompasses 40 acres, including 20 acres of Sitka spruce forest, 20 acres of floodplain outwash riparian, and 0.25 miles of both sides of the North Fork Necanicum River.
The conservation values to be protected and enhanced include healthy watershed function; multi-aged Sitka spruce forest with multiple canopy layers; large coarse woody debris; Sitka spruce seedling regeneration; braided channels along the North Fork Necanicum River; riparian forest dominated by mature bigleaf maple, red alder, and a well-developed community of riparian shrubs; habitat to support large numbers of coho and Chinook salmon and steelhead; and a complex forest structure to support a wide range of small mammals and amphibians.
