North Coast Land Conservancy has received a $500,000 grant from Oregon Community Foundation to help conserve the Rainforest Reserve. The grant is part of OCF’s Pacific Northwest Resilient Landscape Initiative, whose goal is “to unite and empower people from across our region to protect our lands and waters so their many benefits can be enjoyed by all people—now and for generations to come.” NCLC is one of 12 land trusts in Oregon, Washington and Idaho to receive funding through this program.
The Rainforest Reserve project was singled out as an exceptionally rare opportunity for a natural climate solution in a region where the predominance of industrial timber ownership typically precludes large-scale forestland conservation. Acquisition will allow for a shift in forest management and the conservation of a landscape rich in biodiversity and a wide range of habitats and elevations to support species’ adaptation to climate changes.
NCLC is more than halfway to our goal of raising $10 million by the end of 2021 to complete conservation of the Rainforest Reserve.
