Legacy Giving Options
Explore different ways to plan ahead and make coastal conservation part of your legacy.
Legacy gifts, or planned gifts, are a meaningful way to take control of your assets and ensure they are used to conserve and steward special places on the Oregon Coast for generations to come. There are numerous easy and convenient ways to make coastal conservation part of your ongoing legacy, from bequests and unrestricted real estate to gifts of life insurance and retirement plans.
Here is a list of ideas to get you started*:
Bequests
Bequests are one of the more popular ways to make a legacy gift, and its fairly simple to get started. Bequests are generally outright gifts, or charitable contributions that you leave as a bequest in your legal will. They typically specify a specific amount of a percentage of your total wealth.
Life Insurance Policies
Gifting a life insurance policy allows you to make a significant legacy gift to NCLC, with tax benefits you can enjoy during your lifetime. Through a relatively small annual cost of the premium, you can give a gift that is larger than otherwise would be possible.
Retirement Plans (IRA, 401(k), or Other Retirement Assets)
Naming NCLC as a beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), or other retirement plan ensures that the full value of your retirement assets are used for good and could save your heirs from costly tax liability.
Donor-Advised Funds
A donor-advised fund (DAF) can be used to give now, give later or both. A DAF succession plan engages family members within the philanthropic goals set by the donor.
Charitable Endowments
Charitable endowments are another way to participate in legacy giving. NCLC is a member of the Oregon Community Foundation’s Endowment Partner Fund. If you would like to give a gift to NCLC’s endowment, the funds will be directly donated to NCLC’s Endowment Fund held by OCF. Real Estate

However, if you would like to gift real estate with a restricted use, reach out to us and we can discuss possible options.
Personal Property
Similarly, NCLC can accept unrestricted gifts of high-value assets and personal property., if you choose to name us as a beneficiary in your estate plan. These could be items we may use for programming or at our facilities, or things we can sell for revenue. Additionally, cash gifts can be set aside in advance.
