Spring is here! Help us release the trees and other native vegetation in the Necanicum Forest before they get out-competed by blackberry and other invasive plant species.
This healthy riparian habitat has been augmented by many native plantings over the years, but it is still threatened by fast-growing and monoculture-forming knotweed and blackberry. Removing these harmful plants allows our native plantings, and the overall habitat, to thrive.
Additionally, we might get to planting native trees and shrubs… and this a great time to look out for fawn lilies!
MEETING SITE: We’ll meet in the parking lot of the Klootchy Creek County Park, off U.S. Highway 26.
BRING: Sturdy boots and clothing, snacks and water for yourself. NCLC will provide tools and gloves, but feel free to bring your own. Leather gloves and loppers and/or hand clippers are particularly handy for blackberry and other invasives. There is no potable water at the site, and no toilets. OTHER DETAILS: There are porta-potties at the county park parking lot where we’ll meet, but not on the NCLC property. Dogs are not allowed on any NCLC properties.
