In conjunction with our 2024 Beachy Keen BioBlitz, Marine Reserve Coordinator Angela Whitlock will lead an outing at the Neakahnie Beach, adjacent to the Cape Falcon Marine Reserve, from 8 to 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 22.
Join us and learn how to identify and record marine wildlife via iNaturalist to help contribute to the 2024 BioBlitz project for Cape Falcon Marine Reserve. Refreshments will be provided following the outing on the patio at the Manzanita Visitor’s Center.
About the BioBlitz
North Coast Land Conservancy’s Cape Falcon Marine Reserve Program is hosting a monthlong BioBlitz during August. The BioBlitz will take place in and around Cape Falcon Marine Reserve, located on the Oregon North Coast, and the adjacent Oswald West State Park.
A bioblitz is a communal effort to identify and record as many distinct species in a designated area and timeframe in order to collect long-term datasets.
Want to participate? The first step is to download the iNaturalist app onto your mobile device and join our project in iNaturalist. Then, any time during the bioblitz, head down to Short Sand Beach, Falcon Cove Beach and Neahkahnie Beach to look for various species and document your observations in the app. Even if you don’t know exactly what something is, don’t worry. Researchers and other users from around the world work to identify all species recorded.
