Anniversary Hike at Boneyard Ridge

Register Here

Join us for a hike up to Boneyard Ridge Habitat Reserve to celebrate the 10th year of its conservation!

NCLC Executive Director Katie Voelke will lead this outing. Our hike will start at the base of Tillamook Head and then continue through a forest that is on a healthy trajectory toward maturing into a high-functioning rainforest. We’ll finish at a clearing where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the coastline (if weather permits).

Hike Details:
This is a hike with approximately 400 feet of elevation gain on an old logging roadbed. We will cover approximately 1.75 miles.

Participants are encouraged to dress for the day’s weather (layers and hats). Plus, bring plenty of water and snacks/lunch and wear appropriate footwear (sandals or flip flops not recommended), such as sturdy waterproof hiking shoes/boots, sun protection (sunglasses and sunblock). Binoculars are recommended. Pets are not allowed to attend these outings.

We will meet at Circle Creek Conservation Center. Please arrive 15 minutes ahead of the start time to check in so we can begin the program promptly. We look forward to seeing you!

About the Guide:
Katie Voelke was raised in a home under oak trees where she spent many hours collecting bugs, making mud pies with her sister, and camping and hiking with her parents in the summers. She is sure that this life-long exposure to the natural world is what led her on a path to study biology in school. Katie settled on Oregon’s north coast with her husband Scott in 2003 and spent time doing field work with the Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife before she finally found her calling: working in land conservation with NCLC. In 2005, Katie started as NCLC’s first Stewardship Director, working under founding Executive Director, Neal Maine. After three years of learning the ropes alongside Neal, she took the helm in 2008 as Executive Director. Although her job at NCLC keeps her inside more than she would like, she manages to get her fix of the outdoors by following in her parent’s footsteps: bug collecting with her three sons and spending the summers hiking and camping with family.

This program is free, but registration is required. If you have questions, contact us at nclc@nclctrust.org.
