Knot on Our Watch: Removing Invasives at Necanicum Forest
10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Wednesday, June 28
Summer is almost upon us! Help us release the trees and other native vegetation in the Necanicum Forest before they get out-competed by invasive knotweed and blackberry! This healthy riparian habitat has been augmented by many native plantings over the years, but it is still threatened by fast-growing and monoculture-forming knotweed and blackberry. Removing these harmful plants allows our native plantings, and the overall habitat, to thrive.
MEETING SITE: We’ll meet in the parking lot of the Klootchy Creek County Park. Map here.
BRING: Sturdy boots and clothing, snacks and water for yourself. NCLC will provide tools and gloves, but feel free to bring your own. Leather gloves and loppers and/or hand clippers are particularly handy for knotweed and blackberry.
There is no potable water at the site, and no toilets. There are porta-potties at the county park parking lot where we’ll meet, but not on the NCLC property. Dogs are not allowed on any NCLC properties.
