SUMMARY:Weed Warrior Wednesday
DESCRIPTION:Each Wednesday throughout the year\, our stewardship crew plans to be at one of our properties on the Oregon North Coast. Weed Warrior Wednesdays focus on whatever the land steward determines is that week’s priority. Often\, they involve weed-removal activities but may include other kinds of projects\, such as seeding; planting and plant maintenance; native-plant caretaking; trail building/maintenance; and site cleanups. \nThe location changes regularly\, but we send out an email at the start of the week to give you a heads up of where we will be\, what time and what we’ll be doing on the upcoming Wednesday. All you have to do is respond and let us know you plan to show up that given week! You can come every week if you want\, or simply as you are available. \nTo receive weekly email notifications about upcoming Weed Warrior Wednesday activities\, fill out our Volunteer Inquiry Form.

SUMMARY:Spooky Seed Sowing 2026
DESCRIPTION:Register Here\nWe’re partnering with NORP (Northwest Oregon Restoration Partnership)\, a program of Tillamook Estuaries Partnership (TEP)\, for a fun-filled volunteer work party on Halloween Eve (Friday\, Oct. 30)! We will travel to their native plant nursery in Tillamook and help sow seeds into pots for next year’s grow out. We are likely to be sowing seed from native plant species such as the early blue violet and bigleaf maple. \nCostumes are strongly encouraged! Carpooling is also encouraged. NCLC staff will be driving our two NCLC work trucks to Tillamook\, and we have some extra seats. Let us know if you’re coming from Seaside and hoping to carpool\, and we can arrange a spot for you. \nThis stewardship event is open to volunteers who are 18 and older. \nWhat to Bring: The NORP nursery has a covered (but not heated) building that we may be working in. However\, also be prepared to work outside if needed. Bring sturdy shoes\, gloves\, layers\, water\, a snack or lunch\, etc. Anything you would usually need to be comfortable while working a couple hours in the field. \nAbout the Native Plant Nursery\nFrom seed to sprout\, TEP’s nursery nurtures up to 120\,000 native plants at any one time. The plants are unique because they are grown from seeds collected along Oregon’s North Coast\, making them locally adapted to thrive in our coastal ecosystems. After three years of growing\, strong root structures have developed\, and the plants are ready for their new homes in the watershed. Once planted by the Northwest Oregon Restoration Partnership\, they play a critical role in restoring habitats to create cleaner water and better habitats for fish\, birds\, pollinators\, wildlife and people. Learn more about the nursery at TBNEP.org.

SUMMARY:Fall Fungi Frolic!
DESCRIPTION:Register Here\nFollow NCLC Stewardship Manager Eric Owen on a guided walk through the forests at Circle Creek Habitat Reserve\, where you will observe the wide variety of fungi found within them. During this outing\, we will investigate the roles different mushrooms undertake in their respective environments and how they interact with their fellow inhabitants. \nThis Together in Nature (TIN) program is free\, but registration is required! \nOuting Details: This mycology-focused hike will follow one or more of the trails at Circle Creek with uneven terrain and easy to moderate difficulty. We will be meandering at a relatively slow pace\, but rain boots or waterproof hiking boots are strongly recommended\, as we may have to traverse through mud and/or up short inclines. No dogs allowed on site. \nWhat to Bring: Water and snacks. Please wear sturdy walking shoes and dress for the day’s weather. Bring a hand lens or magnifying glass if you have one. \nAbout the Guide\nEric Owen was born in Grand Junction\, Colorado. He grew up in a suburban neighborhood of San Diego\, where his love of nature developed in the backyard\, searching for bugs\, and on the beach\, fascinated by intertidal and marine life. After living in northern California for seven years\, with a deep appreciation for the coastal redwood forests\, he moved to Oregon in 2010 to be nearer to his immediate family\, who all live in the state. He completed his bachelor’s degree at Oregon State University in 2014\, where he majored in environmental science with a minor in writing. Eric got his start at NCLC that same year\, working in a team of three as part of NCLC’s first stewardship intern crew. He returned in 2015 as a Land Steward\, working in that role for several years before transitioning to Stewardship Manager in late 2023. In addition to his passion for conservation ecology\, some of his interests include soccer\, skateboarding\, puzzling\, mushroom hunting\, and bird watching.
