The Beavers at Thompson Creek

Saturday May 22, 10 A.M. - 12 P.M., Stanley Marsh / Thompson Creek

Please join NCLC on Saturday May 22 for a celebration of our state's natural engineers, the beaver. Scientists are coming to realize just what a profound effect these animals have on shaping the natural landscape and supporting all of the creatures who live in it. Come to Thompson Creek, a salmon-bearing stream on the edge of Seaside, and learn how the industrious beavers are restoring an entire ecosystem, one dam at a time.

Directions: Take Lewis & Clark Road from where it meets Highway 101 in North Seaside east, about 1/2 mile to Nygaard Road. Pull into Nygaard and park, and we'll go from there [map].

Dress for the weather and bring sturdy shoes or boots. The distance is not far and the ground is generally level but could be soggy, and there is no defined trail. Please leave your pets at home.

Note: This event also happens to be during Broom Buster week, and volunteers will be out on the property working to remove the invasive plant from the Thompson Creek and Stanley Lake properties. If you want to help, come out any time between 9 and 3 with your gloves (and loppers if you have them). Don't forget to pack a lunch!

And be sure to check out our other upcoming events.

North Coast Land Conservancy's Gateway to Discovery field programs provide an entry point to Oregon's coastal riches -- birding, geology, and a salmon rich watershed. These programs serve the community and its visitors by extending beyond the walls of any building. Come walk in an ancient spruce forest, learn about local birding in a restored estuarine lake, watch for bald eagles while the tides come and go, learn about the region's natural, cultural, and historical resources.
